Tyrone U21s retained the Shamrock Cup when they had six points to spare over Monaghan at Cremartin on Sunday afternoon. The holders began well with Lee Brennan knocking over three frees and Cathal McShane also on target but then Monaghan got on top. Barry McGinn and Conor McCarthy weighed in with a number of quality points as they turned things around to lead 0-8 to 0-4 at halftime.
Tyrone had the wind at their backs in the second half and after McShane and McCarthy had scored early on for their respective sides the visitors took over. McShane, Brennan, David Mulgrew and Mark Kavanagh all notched scores as they made it eight points without reply. McGinn responded for Monaghan but Tyrone closed the game out with the last three points from Kavanagh, Mulgrew and Fintan McClure as it finished 0-16 to 0-10.
