Tyrone 1-16 Kerry 0-14

Tyrone completed their division one Allianz campaign with a third win on the trot after recording a first league win over Kerry since 2010. This latest success at Healy Park was fully deserved and in truth they could have won by more.

Cormac Coffey and Lee Brennan exchanged early points from play before Killian Spillane and Ronan O’Neill had scores from frees for their respective sides. Kerry then took a grip on things with superb scores from Stephen O’Brien, Daithi Casey and a long range Spillane free. Conal McCann had a point for the hosts but Kerry continued to look the better side as O’Brien, Michael Geaney and Johnny Buckley helped them establish a 0-8 to 0-5 lead.

Mattie Donnelly and Michael Burns traded points before Tyrone finished the first half with a flourish. Cathal McShane blasted over and Kieran McGeary tagged on a point before frees from Niall Morgan and Brennan left Tyrone in front at the short whistle, 0-10 to 0-9.

Spillane had the opening score of the second half from a free before McShane and Buckley landed brilliant efforts from play. Brennan and Spillane both converted placed balls again before the former and Ronan O’Neill edged Tyrone 0-14 to 0-12 in front at the end of the third quarter.

In the 57th minute substitute Conor Meyler was fouled for a penalty but O’Neill sent the spot kick to the wrong side of the left hand post. Despite that the home side grew in stature with man of the match Frank Burns outstanding. Declan McClure and McShane both hit quality points before Peter Harte crossed for McClure to palm home a decisive 68th minute goal. Spillane and substitute Matthew Flaherty had late scores for Kerry but Tyrone had done more than enough to secure victory.
