Tyrone 2-5
Monaghan 5-12

It proved to be a Blue Friday for Tyrone as they made the short hop to Emyvale to face Monaghan in the Tesco Homegrown Ladies National League. Despite going into the tie full of confidence Tyrone got a severe reality check as Monaghan inspired by Laura McEneaney ran out comfortable winners. Mc Eneaney playing at half forward rattled in 2-5 with Ciara McAnespie 2-1 and Catriona McConnell 1-2 among the goals.
Tyrone reshuffled the pack, Christiane Hunter went to full back, Shannon Quinn moved to a half back role with Niamh O’Neill and Emma Hegarty in the middle of the field. With Tori McLaughlin sweeping they faced an up hill battle though and trailed 2-9 to 1-1 at the break. Gemma Begley turned in Tyrone’s goal as they huffed and puffed but failed to get a grip on the game. Once again Tyrone lacked potency up front while Mc Eneaney ran the show at the other end.
While it was a difficult night for the Tyrone defence they had their moments. Shanon Lynch, Neamh Woods, McLaughlin, Hunter and Maria Donnelly worked hard while goalkeeper Lynch pulled off a string of good stops. Up front new girls Emma Smyth, Conwell and Donnelly created chances.
Tyrone latched on a second goal from Lorraine Conwell and Begley saw a great effort superbly saved by Linda Martin but it was a night to forget in the main. What promised to be a difficult league campaign just got tougher but on the plus side there remains several players set to return. Next up after a tough fortnight of training will be Galway.
Tyrone scorers Gemma Begley 1-1, Lorraine Conwell 1-0, Joline Donnelly 0-2, Tori McLaughlin 0-2
