Tyrone 0-17 0-10 Dublin

Tyrone have qualified for the 2023 Buncrana Cup final with an impressive semi final win over Dublin in Parnell Park on Saturday afternoon. The foundation for the victory was a superb first half performance particularly in defence as they held their opponents scoreless in the second quarter. The accuracy of Peter McGoldrick from placed balls was another feature, converting five first half kicks.

Tyrone started brightly through scores from McGoldrick and the lively Liam McGeary. In the sixth minute Oisin Watson prevented a certain goal when he smothered a shot on target. By the mid point of the half Tyrone led 5-3 and in spite being wasteful in possession at times they were in control. Points from McGeary and Dara Devlin extended the advantage before Liam McGeary struck the post following a fine flowing move. Sean Corry picked up the rebound but had to settle for a fisted point. Further scores from McGoldrick and Corry saw Tyrone lead 10-3 at half time.

Tyrone began the second half in similar fashion with two quick scores, which were cancelled out by Dublin’s first score in eighteen minutes. The contest should have been finished in the 36th minute when a marauding run by Corry was brought to an abrupt halt in the Dublin square. Unsurprisingly a penalty was awarded however Corry’s effort was well saved by the Dublin keeper.

Dublin spurred on by the save enjoyed their best period in the match clawing the deficit back to four with twelve minutes remaining.

An excellent free from the ground by Adam Cushnahan settled Tyrone nerves but they were to be tested in the 51st minute with Watson making the initial save before Dara Devlin made a timely block from the rebound.

McGoldrick added to his tally with a point with the goal at his mercy, but a brace of scores from Mc Dermott  saw Tyrone run out worthy winners.

A meeting with Armagh, in Buncrana, in early August their reward.
