Tyrone are through to the final of the Nicky Rackard Cup final following a 3-21 to 2-13 win over neighbours Fermanagh at Garvaghy on Saturday afternoon. Tyrone played wind assisted in the first half and made good use of the elements to reach the halfway point ahead 2-15 to 0-6. Fermanagh pushed hard to close the gap after the restart and at one stage of the second half had it down to 1-5.

Early scores from Aidan Kelly, Ciaran Magill and Niall Mc Garel gave Tyrone the perfect start with Fermanagh’s response being a converted free from Luca Mc Cusker. Niall Mc Garel hit the net for Tyrone’s first goal and the Red Hands then hit six points without reply before Mc Cusker again broke their rhythm with Fermanagh’s second point of the game.

Fermanagh managed to hit their third point of the half when Sean Corrigan pointed to keep the contest honest. With half time rapidly running out  Tyrone appeared to lose their way before scores from Fionn Devlin and Aidan Kelly steadied the nerves. Magill gave Tyrone further cause for hope when the centre forward struck for his team’s second goal just before half time. The teams left the pitch at the break with Tyrone leading 2-13 to 0-6.

With the wind at their backs in the second half Fermanagh set about reducing the deficit. A goal and four points without reply gave them hope but Tyrone’s Rory Weir struck for his side’s third goal. A brace of points put Tyrone further in front but Luca Mc Cusker kept his side in the game with his accuracy from frees. Sean Paul Mc Kernan and Ciaran Magill added points to put further daylight between the teams.

With four minutes of added time Tyrone created a number of late scoring chances with Feargal Donaghy and Ciaran Magill rounding off the scoring to leave the full time score 3-21 to 2-13 in favour of Tyrone and a place in the Nicky Rackard Cup final.
