Tyrone U-16 Ladies Claim Ulster Title
Sunday 10.05.2015
Tyrone were crowned Ulster under 16 champions on Sunday with a determined display against Monaghan at rain lashed Donagh. Tyrone impressed throughout with Chloe Mc Caffrey in particular in outstanding form. She hit 1-4 with her all important goal coming just after half time.
Tyrone found the net twice in the opening half though Caitlin Kelly’s effort was ruled out. Shannon Stephenson finished well to the net after a crisp pass from Kelly just before the break as Tyrone looked to take control having recovered from conceding three early goals to their opponents in an exciting half of football. Monaghan’s goals came from Mc Kenna, Mc Connell and Kerr
McCaffery hit 1-2 in the opening ten minutes of the second half while a stunning double save from Caiomhe Meeke proved crucial to Tyrone’s success as Monaghan pushed hard to close the gap. Farney pair McBride and McConnell were doing their best to keep the scoreboard ticking over. Roisin Devlin though, who finished the day with 0-6 was on target with several points from all angles while Jessica Heaney, McCaffery, Aimee Daly and Stephenson always threatened as Shauna Stephenson turned in a super shift in defence.
Even when McCaffery was yellow carded in the closing moments there was to be no way back for Monaghan and Tyrone pressed on to claim a seven point win and a deserved Ulster title. Credit to the management team of Brian McGinn and Kevin Bogle who were delighted with the work rate and the endeavour shown by their players. They can now look forward to facing the Connaught champions later in the summer.
Tyrone scorers Chloe McCaffery 1-4, Roisin Devlin 0-6, Caitlin Kelly 1-1, Shannon Stephenson 1-0, Shauna Stephenson 0-1, Maeve McElroy 0-1, Aoife Byrne 0-1
