The final whistle confirms Tyrone’s place in the 2011 Ulster under-21 football final against Cavan but this was a real battle and Monaghan will feel they deseved better than an agonising one point defeat. As things transpired, those three games against Down served Tyrone well in this semi-final at Brewster Park as the Red Hands once again displayed great character to come from five points behind to win this game by the narrowest of margins, 0-11 to 1-7. Well Done to Raymond Munroe and his players…

Monaghan launch a late free kick towards a packed Tyrone goalmouth but the ball drops short and not for the first time tonight Ronan O’Neill is back helping out in defence and clears the ball…

Tyrone thought they had stolen a two point advantage for the first time on the night through Mattie Donnelly but the referee disallows his fisted score and Tyrone are still hanging on to a one point lead with seconds to go…

TYRONE ARE AHEAD! Tyrone counter attack to great effect as substitute John McCullagh swings over a fine score to send the Red Hands into a 0-11 to 1-7 lead with three minutes of injury time to be played…

Monaghan have played with a lot of enterprise all night and are still going for victory as the game heads towards injury time. The next score is vital, Monaghan coming close through David McKenna. It’s exciting stuff here…

Ronan O’Neill and Mattie Donnelly combine to engineer a chance for the Red Hands  but the ball goes out for a forty-five and Kyle Coney delivers a superb kick between the posts to tie things up with four mintes to go. It’s now 0-10 to 1-7…

Ronan McNabb does the spadework as Tyrone break forward, Peter Harte shooting a great score to bring the sides level with nine minutes to go, only for Monaghan’s Dooney to point almost straight away to give Monaghan the edge once more, 1-7 to 0-9…

Monaghan’s star player McGuinness just fails from a free kick as he tries to increase his personal tally to 1-4, his shot hitting the woodwork, and Tyrone break upfield but the opportunity is wasted, the Farney men still leading by a single point with over ten minutes remaining…

This is proving to be an enjoyable second half and that man McGuinness is on target again for Monaghan twice in quick succession to turn the match back in his side’s favour, his two well taken points making it 1-6 to 0-8 approaching the final quarter…

Great work by Shea McGuigan and Ciaran Gervin helps to create an excellent chance for Mattie Donnelly as Tyrone carve open the Monaghan defence and the Trillick man shoots the ball between the posts to put his side in the lead for the first time in this semi-final…

Tyrone work the ball very well out of defence and midfielder Niall McKenna polishes off a good counter attack with a fine equalising point, leaving it 0-7 to 1-4…

Tyrone create a clear cut goal chance of their own but somehow Mattie Donnelly’s shot is cleared off the line and Monaghan stay in front by the minimum margin…

Tyrone are perhaps living dangerously these past few minutes as Monaghan continue to look very threatening in front of goal, with Dermot Malone pulling the strings at centre half forward, and Tyrone are lucky to survive a few close calls before McGuinness converts a free kick to send Monaghan back in front, 1-4 to 0-6…

Almost straight away Tyrone are on the attack again and it’s Mattie Donnelly who applies a cool finishing touch as Tyrone draw level for the first time in the match, 0-6 to 1-3. It’s a good comeback by the Red Hands and things are now looking much more promising…

Tiernan McCann, Peter Harte, Niall McKenna and Ronan O’Neill are all involved before Kyle Coney bursts clear and thumps the ball over the bar from close range, leaving it 1-3 to 0-5 early in this second half…

This is turning out to be a really tough battle for Tyrone who will be happy to be trailing by just two points at this stage of proceedings after falling five points in arrears in the opening quarter. Monaghan are really fired up for this match and are causing all sorts of problems for the Tyrone rearguard with their pace. The Red Hands have a lot of improving to do but they are well capable of playing much better than they have done so far. An interesting second half awaits…

31 minutes gone and Pete Dooney registers his team’s fourth score to lead 1-3 to 0-4 at half time.

26 minutes gone and Mattie Donnelly does really well and scores Tyrone’s third point. Tyrone 0-3, Monaghan 1-2

16 mins and Mc Neice knocks a free over to leave Tyrone trailing by 3

15 minutes in and Niall Sludden opens Tyrone’s account. M 1-2. Tyr 0-1

14 minutes gone and Monaghan corner forward Mc Guinness finds the net. Mon 1-2 Tyr 0-0

12 mins gone Mc Eneaney again from play and Monaghan lead by 2

6 minutes in and Monaghan miss another goal chance as Mc Kenna misses from a narrow angle. Tyrone just have not settled yet.

goal chance for Monaghan but Malone drives it wide from 8 metres

3 mins gone Monaghan lead 1 nil with a point from Mc Eneaney

Tyrone as is their custom when playing Monaghan will wear their changed strip of all red.
