Tyrone’s unbeaten start to 2014 came to an end at Killarney on Sunday afternoon when they slumped to a heavy defeat at the hands of Kerry at Fitzgerald Stadium. Things were looking good at the break as the Red Hands had played their way into the contest following a slow start with the sides going in level at 0-8 apiece. Niall Morgan, Ronan O’Neill, Darren McCurry and Peter Harte all weighing in with a brace each, the latter’s two superb efforts from out on the left wing.

They had keeper Morgan to thank though for two outstanding saves in the opening five minutes when they were on the rack. Kerry keeper Brian Kelly also came to his side’s rescue to thwart Paddy McNeice after an effort from O’Neill for a point had come back of the post. The returning Bryan Sheehan kicked a number of frees for the hosts with Barry John Keane and James O’Donoghue also on target.

Halftime substitute Ciaran McGinley nudged Tyrone in front two minutes after the restart but the least said about the remainder of the game the better as they failed to trouble the umpires again. Sheehan took his personal tally on the day to eight but the star of the show for the winners was All Star attacker O’Donoghue who bagged a second half hat trick as it finished 3-15 to 0-9.
