Tyrone lifted four Irish News All Star awards at tonight’s presentation dinner in Armagh. Unsurprisingly Ulster Champions Donegal topped the list with seven awards while star defender Karl Lacey was named Player Of The Year.

The four Tyrone players to make the team were defenders Conor Gormley and Joe McMahon plus Sean Cavanagh and Peter Harte. It is a fantastic achievement for Mc Mahon in particular who suffered a broken jaw in the opening club game of the season but returned in time to play a key role in Tyrone’s unsuccessful quest for another Ulster title. Conor Gormley was immense for the Red Hands all season and was particularly impressive against both Monaghan and Donegal where he completely nullified the threat of Paul Finley and Colm Mc Fadden. Meanwhile Sean Cavanagh and Peter Harte were the two most impressive and consistent attacking players Tyrone had and along with their two defensive colleagues were thoroughly deserving of their awards.

Tonight’s four All Star awards brings the Tyrone total to 71 which moves them even further ahead at the top of the list of award winners. Armagh are closest to them with 53 but the numbers speak for themselves illustrating clearly just how dominant Tyrone have been in Ulster during the recent past. Let’s hope that trend continues for some time to come.
