Tyrone have pulled out of their Christy Ring playoff game with Down which was scheduled to take place at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh this Saturday afternoon.

After recently winning the Nicky Rackard Cup title to go along with success in division 3B of the National league there is no doubt that Tyrone are making significant progress under Mattie Lennon but the Armagh native feels they haven’t had the sufficient time to prepare and do themselves justice against the Mourne men.

“The situation is that after winning the Nicky Rackard Cup we would have loved to have gone straight into the Christy Ring for 2015 and that would still be our ambition,” said Lennon.

“We have enjoyed a great season and to win the Rackard Cup from a base of D3B hurling was a fine achievement and we would have liked more time to prepare properly for a game with Down.

As things stand at the moment simply fulfilling that fixture with Down would be absolutely no benefit to the development of hurling within Tyrone. Since winning the Rackard Cup our preparations have been interrupted with clubs coming under pressure to play refixtures in the Ulster league.

The U21 championship has also commenced and we will be focussing strongly on that. I would like to thanks the clubs for their assistance throughout the season as they have played their part in the success that we have enjoyed.”
