Tyrone travelled to Dundalk to meet Warwickshire in the semi final of the Nicky Rackard Cup in confident mood but found their opponents in unforgiving form as they defeated Mattie Lennon’s side 1-25 to 1-14.

The Red Hands played with the wind in the first half but struggled for scores as Paul Hoban, Shane Caulfield and Donncha Kennedy controlled the space in front of the Warwickshire goal.

Twenty minutes in and there was a single point between the teams as Niall Mc Kenna and Kelvin Magee responded to scores from Damian Casey and Pierse O’Kelly. Two minutes later the complexion of the game changed when Warwickshire were awarded a penalty. Tyrone goalkeeper Conor Mc Elhatton made a brilliant save from Niall Mc Kenna but unfortunately Garry Lennon reacted quickest and finished the ball to the net.

The goal put Warwickshire in control and from then to the end Tyrone struggled to close that gap. Sean Muldoon, Justin Kelly and Ryan Mc Kernan all landed fine second half scores but Warwickshire always looked dangerous on the break and in Mc Kenna, Hoban and Kennedy they had the talent to exploit the spaces that increasingly appeared in the Tyrone defence.

With the game slipping away Tyrone sub Sean Og Grogan hit the net to give his team hope. Unfortunately for Tyrone it was their opponents who were inspired by the goal. They hit eight unanswered points to ease to an eleven point win and a place in the final against Donegal.

Final score: Tyrone 1:14, Warwickshire 1:25.
