U16 Championship Title For Strabane

Strabane Sigersons under 16s claimed the grade three championship title after a hard fought encounter against neighbours Castlederg at Ballinamullen.
Wind assisted in the first half Strabane led at the break 3-5 to 2-1. Points from player of the match Liam Harper opened the first half scoring and he was joined on the list of first half scorers by Jamie Stewart (0-2), Haydn Williamson (1-1), Callum Mc Granaghan (1-1) and Sean Rouse.
The Derg made a real fight of it particularly in the second half. The drive and strong running of Oisin Harvey and Ben Carlin helped create numerous chances for their side. Unfortunately for them they failed to take advantage of the chances they created. With time almost up and three points between the sides it looked like Strabane would hold out for a win. One last desperate Castlederg attack yielded a penalty for the Derg and offered them the chance of taking the game to extra time.
Midfielder Diego Lara struck the penalty just wide of the post and the chance was gone. Referee Sean Devenney who had a very good game, blew for full time with Strabane a goal in front and worthy winners.
Final score Strabane 4-6, Castlederg 3-6
