It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for Tyrone teams in the Ladies Ulster Club series. Carrickmore lost out to a very talented and well organised Donaghmoyne team in the senior competition. Cappagh ladies with Clodagh Poyntz, Aisling Porter and Teri Mc Cusker all playing well had a comfortable win over Cavan champions Belturbet but the real excitement was down at Aghyaran where the home team entertained a talented Gweedore team in the Junior competition.

Aghyaran Girls Reach Ulster Junior Semi Final. 1-16 to 2-6.

Aghyaran ladies team produced a superb second half showing to defeat the Donegal County champions Gweedore by seven points to reach the semi final of the Ulster Junior club championship. Only one point separated the sides at the end of an entertaining first half. The Gweedore outfit got off to a great start when they struck for two goals inside the opening ten minutes through Rachael Mc Hugh and Tara O’ Donnell with points from Aisling Gillespie and Aishling Cassidy putting the visitors in a strong position.
Playing against a strong breeze Aghyaran fought their way back into the game with points from Nicola Mc Menamin (2) Aimee Coyle (2) Roisin Mc Menamin and Shanon Skelton. The home team finished the half strongly to reach the break a point in arrears 2-3 to 0-8 as momentum swung their way.
Aghyaran came out in the second half fired up and with the breeze in their favour and scored five points without reply from Lucy Mc Menamin (2) Aimee Coyle (2) and Nichola Mc Menamin. Corner forward Aimee Coyle was proving herself to be a real thorn in the Gweedore defence and finished the match with 7 points.
However it was the work done in and around the midfield area by the home pairing of Lucy Mc Menamin and Nichola Mc Menamin that helped wrestle control of the game. There was a hunger now from the Tyrone champions entering the final quarter with some great defending from Phenah O’ Neill who was well supported by Sasha Byrne and Kellie Meehan.
A great move up the right sideline saw Roisin Mc Menamin in space. She cut inside before offloading to Shanon Skelton who palmed the ball to the net. That score sealed a deserved win for the Tyrone champions and set up a semi final clash with Monaghan team Emyvale this Saturday.
This was a good all round team performance from Aghyaran. In defence Sasha Byrne, Kellie Meehan and Phenah O’Neill were well assisted by corner backs Carol Ann Byrne & Ciara Logue. In midfield the two Mc Menamin girls and centre half back Kellie Meehan provided the platform for this victory providing a good supply to the forwards where Aimee Coyle, Roisin Mc Menamin, Shanon Skelton and Stacy Dolan all played well.
