It was double celebrations for Tyrone champions Killeeshil and Eskra following their wins in their respective Ulster Club matches this afternoon. The Junior champions had to call on all their reserves of experience and guile to earn a victory over a very committed Teconnaught team for whom midfielder Ciaran Carville was hugely influential and effective. Killeeshil had cause to thank goalkeeper Ciaran Reilly following his superb second half penalty save which helped keep his side in the hunt at a key juncture in the second period of the game.
With the sides level as the match entered its closing stages the Tyrone lads displayed great character and resilience with Kevin Hughes hugely prominent and Shane Mallon unerringly accurate to edge the game by two in Killeeshil’s favour. They now go forward to meet Donegal champions Milford who beat Antrim champions Davitts after extra time.
Meanwhile Eskra maintained their fine run of form as they restricted Enniskillen Gaels to two scores in each half before recording a 0-19 to 1-3 win over the Fermanagh champions. Eskra were quick out of the blocks as Peter Hughes and Joe Mc Carroll once again controlled the play. The Emmetts were rocked back on their heels by a sixth minute Gaels goal from Niall Mc Govern but the Emmetts refused to allow it to upset their rhythm and reached the break 0-8 to 1-1 in front with Hughes (0-5) joined on the score board by Paul Turbitt, Conor O’Hagan and Shane Hackett.
The second half saw no let up in the pace or style of the game as the Tyrone champions laid siege on the Enniskillen goals for long periods. The points flowed as the Fermanagh lads found Eskra’s all action style of play too much to cope with. Cathal Mc Caffrey, Joe Mc Carroll, Niall Marlow and Paul Meegan all contributed to the mounting scoring tally which could have been even greater but for the profligacy of the Eskra attack. Enniskillen were reduced to fourteen men after 47 minutes but were a well beaten team long before that as Eskra eased through to a semi final meeting with Killeshandra of Cavan on a final score of 0-19 to 1-3,
