Ulster Intermediate Hurling QF
Middletown 2-21 Carrickmore 1-11
Armagh champions Middletown eased into the semi finals of the Ulster Intermediate Hurling championship following a comfortable victory over Carrickmore, at Crossmaglen today.
Na Fianna built the foundations for a handsome victory in the opening period, as they established a 1-13 to 0-3 interval advantage. Team captain Ryan Gaffney supplied the goal on nine minutes following superb work from Kiernan McKernan and David Carville and with Carville, Conor McCann, Cathal Carville, Martin Maguire and Martin Mone landing points, the entire Middletown attack had scored by the 27th minute. Carrickmore responding via the hurl of Justin Kelly, who accounted for their three first half scores.
The Tyrone men staged an impressive revival on the turnaround with Conor Grogan, Aidan Kelly and substitute Paul Hughes all posting points by the 34th minute. Kelly punished a number of misdemeanours in the Fianna attack, but the Eire Og’s challenge faded from the moment Cathal Carville threaded the ball through to Conor McCann for a second goal on 44 minutes. Sean Og Grogan with a late consolation goal for Carrickmore, as Middletown set up a tasty semi final encounter with Lamh Dearg.
