The Tyrone Minor hurlers begin their quest for provincial honours in Healy Park Omagh on Saturday afternoon, when they take on Monaghan in the opening round of the Ulster Minor Hurling League.

Competing in Division Two, Tyrone will also come up against Fermanagh and Donegal in the coming weeks with the top two teams in the section progressing to the league final on Saturday 2nd April.

The Red Hand minors enjoyed unprecedented success in 2010, as they avenged their League Final defeat to Donegal in superb fashion, at Casement Park by clinching the All-Ireland Minor ‘C’ title with a resounding victory over their North Western neighbours.

Given the fact that the 2011 panel is backboned by several of that successful winning side of last term managers Cathal McErlean and Declan Bennett have every reason to be optimistic about their team’s prospects in the coming weeks.

Dungannon and Carrickmore provide the bulk of the panel with Phillip Barker, Tiernan Morgan, Conor McNally and Damien Casey all back on board for the year ahead. Naomh Colum Cille’s Caolan Devlin and Sean O’Hagan will also be hoping to make an impact, while Strabane Shamrock’s Gerard Gilmore is another exciting prospect that demonstrates the immense work currently being put into hurling, at grass roots level within this county.

Admittedly Monaghan are something of an unknown quantity going into Saturday’s opening Division Two excursion, but Tyrone with home advantage will be confident of taking the first positive step towards possible silverware in four weeks time.
