Killyclogher’s bid to reach the Ulster Club senior final ended in disappointment at the Athletic Grounds in Armagh on Sunday afternoon when they were beaten 1-11 to 0-8 by Derry champions Slaughtneil.

On the day the St.Mary’scould have few complaints as they failed to play the football that they are capable of. Points from Mark Bradley and Simon O’Neill gave the Tyrone champions a narrow 0-3 to 0-2 lead at the end of the opening quarter but that was as good as it got for them. Conall McCann did strike a fine point but a few soft frees were converted by Paul Bradley with Christopher Bradley also notching a beauty from play to leave the Derry men leading 0-6 to 0-4 at half time.

Three minutes into the second half Slaughtneil took a vice like grip on proceedings when Meehaul McGrath profited from great approach play from Se McGuigan to blast the ball to the back of the net past Killyclogher keeper Sean Fox.

Padraig Cassidy added a point and it took Killyclogher nineteen minutes to open their second half account via a Bradley free.  Slaughtneil keeper Antoin McMullan then came to his side’s rescue with a superb save to deny substitute Tiarnan Cox.  A goal at that stage may have given them a glimmer of hope but despite points from Cox and team captain Martin Swift they bowed out.
