On what has been a very busy weekend of activities for followers of Scor in the county, Tyrone won three Ulster titles at the Ulster Final of  Scor na nOg in Silverbridge this evening. Success came in recitation and Ceili Dancing following excellent performances from the Omagh St Endas representatives in both disciplines and in traditional music from the very talented group from Edendork. There was no luck for the Kildress quiz team of whom a lot was expected when they came up against a very polished and well drilled Silverbridge team who missed only one question in the whole quiz to lift the provincial title by over twenty points. Tyrone’s last Ulster title in Scor na nOg came in 2008 courtesy of Killeeshil’s Ballad Group. The county failed to win provincial titles in 2009 and 2010 at Scor na nOg so to lift three titles tonight was a fantastic achievement and well done to all our new provincial champions, with commiserations to our gallant losers.

The opening night of the first round of senior Scor also took place over the weekend with a large number of clubs competing at Newtownstewart on Friday evening. An indication of the strength of Scor within Tyrone was the fact that seven ballad groups participated in that night’s competition and with two further first rounds due next weekend in Eglish and Carrickmore, it looks like this winning a county title this year could be an even greater challenge than before.
