Ulster Minor Championship Shield Final Tyrone v Cavan

The first match of the double header was the cup final where Antrim met Derry. It was a very tight game with the Saffron country edging out the win by a goal. In the first half of the Tyrone v Cavan game it looked as if it would be similar.

Catherine Moohan took the first point from play, weaving her way through the Cavan defence. Tyrone were shocked with an Ellie Brady goal that was very much against the run of play but were able to regain advantage following a Rhianne McLoughin free and a goal from her Eglish teammate Grainne Devlin. Cavan clawed back two points leaving Tyrone heading into the break in front but only by the narrowest of margins.

The Red Hands took charge in the second half and showed skill and determination in all areas of the pitch. Cavan created several opportunities but were shut out by some solid defensive work so much so that  their only scores in the second period came from frees. Player of the match Moohan and captain Farley were instrumental to many of the plays with the latter scoring a point and goal in quick succession after some great link up play with Eva Cullen.

Tyrone will be buoyed by their first silverware of their 90th year anniversary and the minor team will have gained plenty of confidence for the national competitions to come.
