The old adage that a game isn’t over until the final whistle sounds was certainly apt at Dunmoyle on Sunday evening as Pomeroy staged a brilliant comeback to earn a replay against hot favourites Greencastle in the quarter final of the Intermediate championship.

The unbeaten league leaders led 0-8 to 0-4 at halftime with Edan Clarke, Barry McGarvey, Cahir McCullagh and Mark Carson among their points, Justin McCaffrey with three points for the Plunketts. Two goals in as many minutes from John McCullagh and Carson [penalty ] seemed to have sealed the game as Greencastle stormed into a 2-11 to 0-5 lead. Pomeroy hit back with two goals from McCaffrey but when they had Kieran McGeary sent off for a second booking seven minutes from time it looked all over. With a minute to go substitute Stephen McKenna converted a penalty after he had been fouled himself and in injury time fellow replacement Christopher Colhoun also found the net as it finished 2-12 to 4-6.
