Castlederg and Eskra served up another cracker of a contest when the two met in the league final on Tuesday night at the superbly appointed Clanabogan Park.
This was a repeat of the championship final which was won by Eskra after a real arm wrestle last week. This time around Castlederg prevailed with team captain Blaine Lynch outstanding. The midfielder along with Aidan Carolan, Oisin Lynch and Emmett Patton led by example throughout.
Eskra battled right to the final whistle but unfortunately they came up short this time around. Ashton Beattie, Conor Hackett, Eoghan Mc Kenna, Luke Kelly, Cormac Hughes and Eoin Mc Evoy fought right to the end. Final score Castlederg 2-12, Eskra 2-6.
Scorers: Derg; Blaine Lynch 1-4, Corin Mc Connell 1-0, Oisin Lynch 0-4, Ryan Mc Laughlin 0-1, Emmett Patton 0-2, Cealif Mc Menamin 0-1.
Eskra: Eoin Mc Evoy 2-2, Cormac Hughes 0-2, Luke Kelly 0-2
Eglish completed the clean sweep at grade two U14 level but they didn’t get matters their own way against Killeeshil in the league final. It was all square at the break 3-3 to 2-6 with Lorcan Hegarty, Ronan Bradley and Sheehan Fay getting the Eglish goals with Eoghan and Dillon O’Neill finding the net for Killeeshil and Daniel Rafferty contributing three points.
Eoghan O’Neill grabbed an early second half goal for Killeeshil and while Conor Holmes and Turlough Muldoon responded with Eglish points another major from Killeeshil left them five in front. Eglish though showed what they are made of as Ryan Donnelly, Cormac Toye and Faye all contributed points either side of a Caolan Donaghy goal as it finished 5-11 to 4-8.
Kildress are another club who have completed the treble after goals proved to be the difference in their league final success over Stewartstown. Aaron McKernan scored twice with Daniel Heagney and Tiernan McNally also on target as they led 4-2 to 0-6 at the break, Conor McElhatton, Darragh Nugent and Michael Hughes among the points for the Harps.
A goal rush at the start of the second half again from the Wolfe Tones put the issue beyond any doubt as Barry McAleer, Oisin McDonald and McNally all scored. Stewartstown matched their opponents as far as points are concerned with McElhatton and Nugent on target again as it finished 7-9 to 0-9.
