Under 16 Ladies Lose Out To Cavan

Tyrone LGFA u16 made the long journey to to KnockbrideGAA Cavan to play I  Ulster u16 championship.  Playing with the wind Cavan blitzed Tyrone with 2-02 in the opening five minutes. Everything was going great for Cavan but the Tyrone defence eventually settled and got to grips with the Cavan forwards.

Following by an interception Heaney her long pass found McAnespie who in turn played a low ball into Lyons who broke forward to fire over from play . From the kickout Tyrone pushed up with Mullin catching the kick out to slip a pass to the on rushing Aimee Holmes who hit a superb right footed point.

The Tyrone attack was on the front foot with Meave Lyons again hitting a point from play to leave the score Cavan 2-02 Tyrone 0-03.

Cavan regained control breaking up field to hit Tyrone with another goal blitz scoring 4-02 without reply despite several great saves from Ella Rose Quinn in goal.

A Tyrone kick out found Concannon in space. Her hand pass reached Gilligan who had replaced D Campbell due to a clash of heads for assessment. She played a 1-2 with A Edgar before finding Leonard who fired a low pass on to R Mullin who was bearing down on goal only to be tripped. The resulting free was pointed by Owens.

Cavan hit another 1-01 before ref D Hurson blew for half time just as Tyrone were attacking their opponents goal to leave the half time score Cavan 7-05 Tyrone 0-04.

Tyrone made several switches at half time with D Coyle, McCullagh, McGinn , Therese and Marieann Loughran all coming on for the second half .Tyrone started the second period like a whirlwind hitting goals from T Loughran and R Mullan who injured herself in  scoring a goal. Tyrone were threatening the Cavan goal following a goalmouth scramble. Cavan broke away to score goal number eight against the run of play.

The Tyrone attack gained control with M Loughran finding the net before E McGinn scored another goal from play. Erin andEllie Daly started to control the midfield as Tyrone pushed Cavan back. To Cavan’s credit they didn’t panic hitting Tyrone on the break with points to keep the score board ticking.

The remainder of the game was point for point both teams scoring four further points a piece coming from play by McCullagh,  Erin Daly, M Loughran, and Mc Ginn. Tyrone rewarded with a penalty late in the game following  a foul on McMoran, unfortunately the kick was narrowly wide.
