Under 16 League Title For Derg

Castlederg claimed the Grade 4 Under 16 league title after a close and exciting final between themselves and Aghaloo. Both sides deserve great credit for the quality of the game and the manner in which it was played.

There was little between the sides during the opening half with scores tied four times during the opening period. Aghaloo did manage to open up a two point lead when the outstanding Darren Mc Anespie found the net with twenty minutes gone. Castlederg showed considerable character to respond to that score and hit the closing three points of the half courtesy of Corin Mc Connell, Shea Leonard and Cathaoir Keenan to go in at the break leading 0-7 to 1-3.

Aghaloo knew they needed a good start to the second half having played wind assisted in the first. Unfortunately for them the Derg began to dominate possession around the middle and centre forward Eoghan Bradley created numerous chances for his team. Full forward and captain Mc Connell bagged two goals in the opening five minutes of the half and from then until the end the Derg were very much on top.

Mc Connell completed a hat trick of goals and found time to set up Bradley for his team’s fourth goal late in the game to seal the win.

Defenders Cian Logue, Matthew Glackin, Kieran Mc Daid and Padraig Corry were outstanding for the winners while for Aghaloo Jay Mc Kenna Douglas, Connor Quinn, Shane Kelly and Daniel Mc Gee never stopped working.

Our Ghost Pizza Player of the Match award went to Castlederg full forward Corin Mc Connell.
