It is all over at Faughanvale and Sperrin Og are through to the next round after a five point victory which was full of character and commitment. Fleming scored a further point for the home side but points from Laura Heagney and Amy Mc Cullagh ensured Sperrin Og made it through on a final score of 3-12 to 2-10. The Greencastle girls were minus the services of the injured Maureen Teague who underwent surgery on her medial ligament earlier this week. Today’s performance and result will surely boost her recovery.

And that is exactly what the Greencastle girls do. Two points from Kim Mc Cullagh bring them level and then a wonderful goal from Shauneen Ferrity puts them 3-09 to 2-09 ahead and a further point from Breige Beggs puts them into a four point lead with five minutes of extra time left to play.

It is half time in extra time at Faughanvale and another Fleming point puts her side two up at the break. Sperrin Og have it all to do but they have shown great courage in the past and will battle hard for the final ten minutes of extra time as they seek to stay in this Ulster Club series.

Midway through the first period of extra time and Faughanvale are back up to fifteen following the earlier sin binning of two players. Fleming the wing half forward puts her side one ahead 2-8 to 2-7 in favour of the Derry champions at this stage.

Kim Mc Cullagh gets the equalising point and it is extra time at Faughanvale.

It’s all happening at Faughanvale as Sperrin Og stage a marvellous comeback with forward Kim Mc Cullagh hitting 1-1 to put just a point in it with 29 minutes on the clock. Can the Greencastle girls do it?

Faughanvale find some respite and wing half forward Fleming gets a brace of points to put her side five in front 2-7 to 1-5. Sperrin Og make a further change as Anita Mc Dermott replaces her sister Louise.

Thirteen minutes into the second half and Sperrin Og continue to run up the wides while a point from Erin Doherty gives the homeside some much needed breathing space. Faughanvale 2-5, Sperrin Og 1-5.

It’s back on in Faughanvale and five minutes into the second half Sperrin Og get the lift they needed with a goal from Breige Beggs and it is now game on. Faughanvale still lead this time it is 2-4 to 1-5.

Louise Mc Dermott sends over Sperrin Og’s fifth point and the whistle sounds for the break with the score now Sperrin Og 0-5, Faughanvale 2-4.

With half time almost there Sperrin Og have responded with two more points, one each from Bronagh Warnock and Breige Beggs. Unfortunately for the Greencastle girls they lose key player Laura Lee Mc Cullagh just before the break with an ankle injury. O’Hara then knocks over a free for Faughanvale to leave the score 2-4 to 0-4 in favour of the Derry girls coming up to the break.

We are into the last ten minutes of the first half and a good save by Sperrin Og keeper Peggy Myles Mc Cullagh keeps her side in the game. The Tyrone girls continue to create chances but all they have to show for  their endeavour is a second point from Shauneen Ferrity. It is now 2-3 to 0-2 with eight minutes left until the break.

It has turned around big time now for Faughanvale as their centre back O’Hara bursts forward for a goal and almost immediately wing half forwad Fleming lands another three pointer. A further point from the same player puts the Derry Champions in a very strong position leading 2-03 to 0-01 with just over fifteen minutes played.

Almost eight minutes on the clock and Faughanvale move into pole position with a point each from Laura Mc Guinness and Dee O’Hare while Kim Mc Cullagh came close to levelling the game but missed narrowly. Sperrin Og 0-1, Faughanvale 0-2.

It was the Tyrone girls who settled first and two minutes into the game Shauneen Ferrity moved forward in support of the attack to knock over the opening score of the game. and with almost four minutes now played Sperrin Og lead 0-1 to no score.
