Junior Hurling semi final

Strabane Shamrocks 2-21 – Cappagh Gaels 1-8

Goals from Gerard Gilmore and Chris McDaid copper fastened a comfortable Shamrock’s Junior Hurling Championship semi final victory over Cappagh Gaels, at Newtownstewart this afternoon.

Shamrocks were full value for their win because throughout the afternoon, they had eight different players on target. Gilmore was in inspiring form as he posted 1-7 to the winning tally and, by the break the winners were well on their way, as they had established an eight points 1-13 to 1-5 cushion. Peter O’Connor, Mark Kane and Malachy Quigg rifling over points to augment the free scoring Gilmore.

Cappagh battled hard with Paddy Conway blazing a first half penalty over the bar before midfielder James Winters scored a goal that offered them renewed hope. However, those hopes were dashed on the restart, when they were reduced to fourteen players. Conor O’Neill and Devlin accounted for the Gaels three second half points, but it was never going to be enough to deny Shamrock’s a place in the Junior Final for the third successive year.

In that Junior decider next month Shamrock’s will tackle Dungannon, who lost out in the senior semi final to Naomh Colum Cille on Thursday evening.
