Holders Errigal Ciaran qualified for the semi final of the Connolly’s of Moy Senior championship, eventually seeing off the stubborn resistance of Moortown with two second half goals proving decisive in a game that failed to ignite. The game was played in constant drizzle, with the slippery conditions not helping the players, however the Loughmacrory pitch held up particularly well.

A disappointing first half saw defences generally on top as forwards found it difficult to break through masses of players. We had to wait until the 11th minute for the opening score, Ruairi Canavan creating a bit of space to kick a nice point. Brother Darragh doubled the advantage as the first quarter finished.

Shea Lawn converted a free for Moortown as they continued to work tirelessly. Tommy Canavan opened his account from a placed ball before Lawn kicked his second free. Darragh Canavan completed the first half scoring when he pulled on a loose ball to fire over the bar soccer style.

Errigal began the second half with greater intent. Tony Quinn reacted  smartly to deny Pauric Traynor with a good save. Tommy Canavan converted a second free while Go man of the match Peter Harte read the kick out before setting up Ruairi Canavan for the easiest of goals. Peter Devlin and Tommy Canavan converted free kicks as the game entered its final fifteen.

Moortown refused to give up and when a brace of Shea Lawn frees and another free from Devlin only a major separated the sides with 52 minutes on the clock. Peter Harte used all his experience to put  Errigal four clear and with a couple of minutes remaining Bryan Horisk got on the end of an intelligent pass from Peter Og McCartan to smash home.

Errigal ran out convincing eight point victors and and are now through to the semi final where they will meet the winners of Sunday’s game between Ardboe and Coalisland.
