The big north Tyrone derby tonight with Newtown at home to Strabane was sure to be ultra competitive. The home side started well and with Ryan Mayse in fine form led 0-4 to 0-2 after twenty minutes. However the Sigersons battled their way back into the game and with Warner Mullan leading the way had edged 0-6 to 0-4 ahead with less than three minutes left until the break a lead they were to hold until half time. Newtownstewart’s first half scorers were Ryan Mayse 0-2, with a point each from Brendan Boyle and Kevin Duffy while in addition to Warner Mullan’s 0-3 Strabane’s other scores came from Brendy Mc Laughlin , Michael Etherson and John Mc Laughlin.

Strabane built on their strong first half finish and when Malcolm Mc Coole put them three up with ten minutes gone it was not looking good for the home side. Further points from JP Gallagher and Michael Etherson left five between them but Brendan Boyle landed two in two minutes to give Newtown hope. 17 year old debutant Ethan O’Kane hit the net for the visitors to put them into a commanding 1-10 to 0-7 lead and with time running out the points seemed destined to be heading home with the border side.To their credit Newtown continued to press and narrowed the gap through Ryan Mayse to leave five points between the teams but that was as good as it got for Newtown as the Sigersons secured two vital points in their battle against relegation.

Meanwhile in Division One Errigal Ciaran led Moy by a goal 1-4 to 0-4 at the short whistle with their goal coming courtesy of a free kick from county player Peter Harte that deceived the keeper and ended up in the net. Errigal played wind assisted in the opening thirty minutes but Moy were well in it throughout with Colm Cavanagh 0-1, Karol Mc Quade 0-1 and Peter Mallon 0-2 on target while Sean Cavanagh was outstanding in centrefield during the opening half.

The home side got the perfect start to the second half when Conal Duffy goaled in the first minute and Karol Mc Quade followed that up with a free to put their side ahead. Peter Mallon also landed a couple of scores for Moy but Errigal settled to their task and with Enda Mc Ginley controlling things in the middle of the field they reeled the home side in and were soon ahead thanks to scores from Peter Harte and Adrian O’Donnell and using all their experience and craft engineered a hard fought five point win. Final score Moy 1-7, Errigal Ciaran 1-12.
