While many clubs were busy with preseason competitions and minor league fixtures the county’s under twenty hurlers and senior lady footballers were both involved in tough games.
The twenties produced a superb first half with goals from Aidan Woods(1-5), Rory Woods (2-1), Shea Munroe (1-0) and Pierce Mullin (1-0) to reach the break leading 5-6 to 1-4. The second half saw Wicklow produce a spirited comeback but Tyrone held on for a three point win.
The senior ladies travelled down to Tipperary. There was little between the teams early in the game as the weather made good football all but impossible. A lucky break for the home side saw them fire to the net when the ball was held up in the wind.
Tipp increased their lead by two before an Aoife Horisk free ended up in the back of the net. Tipp added two goals to move clear before points from Sorcha Gormley, Aoife Horisk and Aoibhin Mc Hugh left the half time score 3-4 to 1-5 in favour of Tipperary.
Tyrone found the net straight from the restart as Aoife Horisk took a pass before finding the net. Chloe Mc Caffrey burst through to put Tyrone ahead. Goals from Sorcha Gormley and Aoife Horisk plus a further point from Horisk put eight between the teams. Tipp narrowed the gap with another goal but this was all but cancelled out by a brace of points from Gormley.
A late Tipperary goal resulted in a few nervy late minutes but a point from Elle Mc Namee steadied the ship and saw Tyrone home on a final score of 5-10 to 5-5.
