What A Historic Day For Derrytresk
Sunday 27.11.2011

It was far from their best performance of the season and they seemed intent on throwing it away at the end as they defended a one point lead but Sunday 27th of November 2011 will always be a historic day for Derrytresk Club. The fairytale continues as the men from the hill added the provincial title to the Tyrone Championship they won in October. This time round they had to come from behind as they played second fiddle to a very physical and highly motivated Cremartin side for long periods of the game. The Monaghan champions had to play most of the match with fourteen men following the first half sending off of their midfielder Niall Flanagan for a second yellow card. They were very annoyed with the referee at the end but on reflection they might consider he was more than lenient towards them in not sending off full forward Kevin Brennan in the closing stages of the first half.
However today was all about Derrytresk and their never say die attitude as they took everything Cremartin could throw at them and then came back with two great sucker punches of their own. A photo of Mohammed Ali in his prime sat behind Paul Hughes as he spoke about Sunday’s game in a recent teamtalk video. Well just like Ali at his best the Tyrone Champions absorbed all of Cremartin’s best shots and caught them cold with the two most important strikes of their own. The second goal in particular from veteran Micky Rea was worthy of winning any match and proved the decisive score of the game.
Derrytresk might well cover their eyes when they watch this one on dvd and realise how profligate they were with chances in the second half and how they almost threw the game away in the closing two minutes with uncharacteristically sloppy play and poor clearances. However all those close run things will count for nothing as they sit back and reflect on a job well done and the dual honour of being county and provincial champions. Well done to all involved from teamtalkmag.com on this wonderful success and we look forward to being with you as you continue this marvellous journey for your club.
