Dungannon Clarkes opened their excellent new facilities in style on Sunday afternoon when they had two points to spare over neighbours Donaghmore before a bumper crowd at O’Neill Park, 1-12 to 0-13.
Paddy Quinn had the honour of being the first player to score on the superb new pitch and he took only eight seconds to do so with an excellent point. Ronan Cassidy levelled matters from a free with Cormac McCann and Cassidy pointing as well after another trio of scores from the on song Quinn. Ciaran Barker and Cassidy exchanged points before Paul Donaghy had the final say of the half to leave it 0-6 to 0-4.
Kevin Barker had the opening score of the second period before a brace from McCann cut the deficit to the minimum. Noah Grimes then crossed for Cassidy to palm over the equaliser but moments later the crucial score of the contest arrived when Dalaigh Jones found the net. Sean Cowan, Quinn and Donaghy all added points and while Donaghmore’s late rally yielded scores from Dan Toner, Brannon Molloy and Conor Cush the home side had done enough for victory.
