The Hunky Dorys Intermediate and Senior championship double header at Dunmoyle on Sunday afternoon resulted in deserved victories for Rock and Clonoe. On a day when the weather made decent football difficult for all four teams the winning pair showed character and resolve to make it through to the quarter finals of their respective competitions. Omagh’s chances in the senior game were not helped when they were forced into several pre-match changes with the loss of Joe Mc Mahon proving a huge blow to St Endas.
In the opening game Rock full forward Conor Mc Creesh helped gave his Rock side a fighting chance with a solid first half showing of point scoring but Derrytresk will regret Michael Robinson’s missed chance mid way through the second period when he struck the post when through on goals. A goal then would have closed the gap between the sides to two points and given his side momentum. However Martin Mc Creesh, Ciaran Gourley and Aidan Girvan rose to the challenge of the conditions and a game Derrytresk side to lead Rock to a comfortable six point win.
The senior game began at a frantic pace with early goals from Conor Mc Aliskey and Ronan O’Neill as both sides began well. Clonoe however were more consistent during the first half making the most of their chances and with Mc Aliskey and Danny Mc Nulty looking dangerous they reached the break in a strong position. Omagh failed to seriously threaten the Clonoe defence after the restart while Colly Doris, Paul Coney and Patrick Doris caused major headaches for Omagh when The O’Rahillys counter attacked at pace. A brace of penalties at key times after the break sealed the game and Clonoe eased through to the quarter finals
