St Joseph’s Coalisland were pushed all the way in their Year Nine colleges final by a very determined and talented St Patrick’s  Dungiven side before the Tyrone school emerged victorious on a scoreline of 3-6 to 3-4.

A brace of first half goals helped Coalisland into a 2-4 to 0-2 halftime lead with Paudi O’Neil, Matthew Mc Nally and Killian Rea each among the first half points. Paudi O’Neill and Michael Mc Keown chipped in with a goal apiece during a battling first half.

Half Time Score : St Josephs 2-4, Dungiven 0-2.

Eight points separated the teams at the break but Dungiven battled hard to get themselves back in the contest. A  goal three minutes into the second half was just the boost they needed as they chased the game. A second goal from O’Neill somewhat against the run of play for Coalisland was huge in the context of the game as it gave St Joes something additional to hang on to.

However Dungiven refused to panic and they set about chasing the game and reducing the lead. As the second half progressed the gap between the sides closed with the Derry lads growing in confidence.

Dungiven were on top in terms of possession and chances created.  It took serious hard work from Reece Donnelly, Ronan Donnelly and Joey Donnelly in the Coalisland defence as the Tyrone lads hung on.

In spite of the best efforts of the Tyrone school Dungiven  almost won in at the death only for their hopes to be dashed by a brilliant diving block from super sub Joe O’Hagan.

Final Score; Coalisland 3-6, St Patricks Dungiven 3-4
