Ardboe completed the second leg of a possible Grade 2 Feile, League and Championship treble with a comfortable 12 point win over a spirited Cookstown side in Stewartstown on Saturday afternoon. Both sides were level at the break 2-5 apiece. The first half opened with an Oran Mulgrew point after just 17 seconds before Cooktown’s Terry Devlin brought the sides in the second minute. Devlin found the net for the Fr Rock’s in the 7th minute to put Cooktstown in front for the first time and when Eoghan Donnelly also bagged a goal in the 11th minute they led the game 2-2 to 0-5. Gavin Coyle got reacted quickly after his shot was saved to find the net for Ardboe’s first goal in the 13th minute and from there until shortly before the break Cooktown took control of the game and added points from Eoin Gallagher, Terry Devlin and Niall McMurray. Ardboe had the final say of the half as Gavin Coyle found the net for Ardboe’s second goal to leave the half time score Ardboe 2-5 Cooktown 2-5.
The second half was only a 33 seconds old when Cookstown went a goal in front thanks to Eoin Gallagher. Ardboe reacted well to the early setback though finding the net four times inside ten minutes. Two of those goals came from the penalty spot and were converted by Oran Mulgrew. Eoghan Devlin and Eunan O’Neill got Ardboe’s other two goal during the same period and by the 42nd minute Ardboe had a 6-6 to 3-6 lead. The icing on the cake for Ardboe was the 47th minute strike from Ben McErlean. The big wing half forward sailed up into the air to catch a cross field pass and then smashed the ball into the roof of the Cookstown net. Sean McLaughlin and Eoin Gallagher added two further points for Cookstown before the final whistle. Final Score : Ardboe 7-8 Cookstown 3-8
