Armagh champions Clann Eireann produced a superb team performance to annexe the Paul Mc Girr Title on Sunday afternoon at Gardrum Park when they defeated Belfast side Rossa 2-10 to 0-4.

Considering the weather we have endured over the past few days the fact that the game went ahead at all is testament to the hard work and commitment of Dromore Club and its members. In spite of recent days of persistently heavy rain the pitch was in super shape throughout.

Clann Eireann began well opening the scoring through Ruairi Mc Conville and although Connell Devine levelled things a minute later the Armagh side were already looking dangerous. Rossa defended well but Clann Eireann landed two fine points in the 17th and 20th minutes before a beautiful pass from man of the match Rioghann Meehan found Tiarnan Kelly in space and the centre forward beat Rossa keeper Michael Byrne from twelve yards.

That score put the Armagh lads in total control and when the half time whistle sounded they had already established a 1-7 to 0-2 lead.

Rossa needed some inspiration at the start of the second half but in spite of the best efforts of Dominic Og Mc Enhill and team captain Michael Mc Greevy they could not break down a well organised Clann Eireann rearguard,

Points from Eoghan Mc Menamin and Michael Close were as good as it got for the Antrim champions as Clann Eireann eased to victory. A fortuitous ricochet resulted in Clann’s second goal but in truth had it not been for Rossa keeper Michael Byrne the gap could have been much greater.

The presentation took place at the conclusion of the game with Clann Eireann captain Sean Mc Carthy receiving the Cuchullain Trophy from Rita and Francie Mc Girr.

Final Score: Clann Eireann 2-10, Rossa 0-4.
