Greencastle capitalised on a quickfire start against Killyman in Sunday’s replay to lift the Grade 4 U16 league title winning 5-11 to 2-5.

Showing a greater appetite for work and improved cohesion the St. Patricks appeared to benefit most from the drawn game. However it was their ability to create and convert chances that made the real difference in the final outcome.

With Ceiran Coyle commanding in defence and the Gumley brothers, Jordan and Ryan, in fine form Greencastle looked the sharper side from the off. They were quicker to the ball, stronger in the tackle and better in their finishing.

A goal after two minutes from Ryan Gumley set the tone for the rest of the first half. Patrick Mc Elhatton, Sean Coneelly and Sean Og Mc Cann all found the net for their team as Greencastle raced into a 4-3 to no score lead after fifteen minutes.

Daragh Morgan opened the scoring for Killyman with a goal followed by points from Ronan Mc Veigh and Cathal Mc Gahan but it was Greencastle who went in at the break the happier team leading 5-6 to 1-3.

The second half failed to produce the same intensity of scoring which was hardly surprising. However Ryan Gumley, Patrick Mc Elhatton and Shea Mc Elhatton landed points for the winners to maintain their handsome lead. Ivo Fario and Cathal Mc Ginty were on target for Killyman but Greencastle were not to be denied and they cantered to the win and the league title on a final score of 5-11 to 2-5.
