Killyman secured a hard earned draw against Greencastle thanks to  a last minute free from the boot of  Eamon Donnelly in Saturday’s Under 16 Grade 4 league final at Beragh.

Greencastle may well look back on this one as one that got away following a host of missed opportunities both from play and placed balls. Indeed the boys in green really should have been out of sight before the concession of that last minute free.

The St Patrick’s dominated possession and created the better chances in  an entertaining first half but went in at the break level 0-6 to 2-0 following two fine goals from the boot of Killyman’s Eamon Donnelly.

The west Tyrone side’s chances were not helped when pacy wing half forward Ryan Gumley was forced to leave the action after suffering a shoulder injury midway through the half. In spite of this serious blow however it was Greencastle who created the better chances of the opening half. Ace marksman Patrick Mc Elhatton was scorer in chief for his side during that first period with four fine points including one rocket that skimmed the crossbar before going over .

Killyman improved considerably after the break with Ronan Mc Veigh, Adam Cullen and Daragh Morgan carrying the game to their opponents. Points from Mc Veigh and Donnelly put their side two in front before Greencastle finally found their second half shooting boots. Driven on by Ceiran Coyle, Ronan Hollywood, Jordan Gumley and Sean Og Mc Cann they turned a two point deficit into a one point lead with scores from Sean Conneely, Jordan Gumley and Patrick Mc Elhatton.

Killyman were not to be denied however and following some late pressure were awarded a thirty metre free which was confidently converted by Donnelly ensuring both sides would have to meet again.

Final score: Greencastle 0-9, Killyman 2-3.
