Having overcome Donegal twice this year already, the two teams had familiar matchups. The first half turned out to be a much tighter affair than previous meetings. With the Kildress venue for this game being relatively unused to the small ball, it was fitting that the first score was from home player Rosie Leadon who found the net shortly after throw in. Donegal were ready for the challenge and the teams then traded points. Seven minutes in, the visitor’s Sarah Lambe grabbed a goal to bring the teams level with 1-2 apiece. Tyrone looked strong in attack with Oilibhia Farley, Rhianne McLoughlin, Aine Cunningham and Siobhan McNulty all taking scores. Donegal made the most of their chances and the game went into the break with a two-point difference.

Half time Tyrone 1-9 Donegal 1-7

After the break and with the team reshuffled, Tyrone were obviously very determined, and the impressive Donegal keeper was swiftly in action. There was some great teamwork from Cunningham and Emma Holmes and with goals from Farley and McLoughlin it looked like the second half would be a foregone conclusion. Donegal weren’t out of it though and scored a goal with a kick over the Tyrone keeper. They were however to only have one more score as the home side dug in and fought for every ball. Substitute Niamh Clarke was particularly strong, and player of the match Farley ran half the pitch before scoring. This talented side have shown the real depth of the squad and will have a two week break before travelling to Louth.

Result: Tyrone 3-18 Donegal 2-8
