Ardboe 3-6 0-11 Dungannon

Ardboe made it four wins on the bounce when they defeated Dungannon before a large crowd at Michael Coney Park on Monday night. Two goals in the closing minutes of the opening half proved decisive for the winners.

Eugene Og Teague opened the scoring before a wonderful point from Paul Donaghy levelled matters. A quality strike from Michael Cassidy and a long range free from Kyle Coney extended Ardboe’s advantage. The Clarkes responded when a long delivery was fisted over by Donaghy before Patrick Quinn drove at Ardboe’s defence to slot over and tie the game at the midpoint of the half.

A second Coney free edged Ardboe before Dungannon’s best period in the game three scores, a super score from beyond the 45 from Quinn, a Donaghy mark and a fisted effort from Patrick McKearney left the visitors well placed as the half drew to a close.

Jack Martin responded before the pivotal moments of the game. Conan Devlin charged through, his rasping shot hit the underside of the bar, Oran Mulgrew fisted the rebound off the crossbar before fisting his rebound to the net. Minutes later a long ball from Michael Cassidy was forced home by a combination of Shay McGuigan and Jack Martin and suddenly Ardboe led by four at the short whistle.

The second half saw Ardboe sit a bit deeper apparently happy to absorb the pressure and hit Dungannon on the break. The first score of the half was a quality team move proving decisive as Teague released  Cormac Devlin who unselfishly picked out Jack Martin to punch to the net.

Despite Dungannon’s best efforts they never looked like getting the goal they needed. Paul Donaghy finished with eight points but he will be bitterly disappointed with a few uncharacteristic misses in the second half.
