While Derrytresk are busy preparing for their All Ireland Club semi final in January their opponents for that game will be decided on Sunday in Birmingham following the quarter final clash between Dromid Pearses of Kerry and Newcastle Cuchullains. The lads from the North East defeated John Mitchells of Liverpool in the All Britain Final on the 6th of November 1-06 to 0-06 and are enthusiastically looking forward to hosting the Kerry men at the weekend. The Munster champions are of course the club of Declan O’Sullivan and current Kerry manager Jack O’Connor.
There is a significant Tyrone presence on the Newcastle team and Galbally entrepreneur and GAA supplier Ciaran Murphy this week supplied the team with Murphy’s Gloves for the game. The Tyrone contingent are pictured having received their gear and are keen to ensure they get a chance to show they are not just making up the numbers when they take to the field on Sunday. Included on the Cuchullains’ squad are Eddie O’Gara (Omagh), Pete Holland (Killeeshil), Sean Maguire (Drumragh), Marty O’Doherty (Drumragh), Terry Gallagher (Omagh) while the team is trained by Paul Quinn (Drumragh).
With so many Tyrone men involved and the fact that they are facing a Kerry team, the whole of the North will be weighing in behind Cuchullains and cheering them on in Sunday’s All Ireland Quarter Final. We hope to carry a report and photographs from the match on Sunday evening on the website.
