Brocagh 2-18 Coalisland Thirds 3-4

Brocagh will play Cookstown in the last eight of the LCC Junior championship after the Emmetts recovered from a disastrous start to beat Coalisland Thirds at the Eoghan Ruadh grounds in Dungannon on Monday evening.

Star of the show for the winners was undoubtedly centre half forward Mickey Hughes who finished with an impressive 0-13 to his name although not far behind him was centre half back Owen Canavan who kicked three superb points.  Coalisland led by four points at the break in a half that flowed one way and then the other. The Fianna enjoyed an unbelievable start to the game with three goals by the 13th minute but there was no doubt that Brocagh were the better side from then until the break.

Brocagh centre half back Owen Canavan opened the scoring with a fine point before Steven Curran levelled matters from a free. The first goal arrived in the 8th minute when a great ball from Curran released Ryan Magee in behind the Brocagh defence and he first timed the ball to the bottom left hand corner of the net. Further goals followed from Liam Lyons and Gerard Toner as the Fianna seized early control. Brocagh though rolled up their sleeves and the free taking of Hughes helped them to close the gap to 3-2 to 0-7 by the interval.

The Loughshore men picked up where they had left off on the restart with Hughes converting a free and Canavan adding a brilliant effort from play from distance. In the 36th minute it was all square following a neat Marc Canavan goal and the Emmetts never looked back.

Hughes pointed from play as well as from a placed ball before a sweeping team move saw midfielder Brandon McKiver notch their second goal of the night. It was all Brocagh at this stage with Hughes not missing a thing and Canavan splitting the posts again. Curran did knock over a Fianna free but by that stage Brocagh were already well on their way to the quarter finals.

Brocagh scorers – Mickey Hughes 0-13 [10F], Marc Canavan 1-1, Owen Canavan 0-3, Brandon McKiver 1-0, Justin Campbell 0-1

Coalisland Thirds scorers – Steven Curran 0-3 [2F], Liam Lyons 1-0, Ryan Magee 1-0, Gerard Toner 1-0, Gerard Quinn 0-1

Referee – Michael Kelly, Urney
