Carrickmore lifted the 2019 Under 21 title following a very mature display against Dungannon Tomas Clarkes at Newtownstewart on Saturday afternoon winning on a 2-9 to 0-7 score line.

Played in very difficult conditions but on an excellent surface Carrickmore made the most of the wind with early points from Stephen Grogan and Ciaran Daly before big midfielder Paddy Mc Callan sent a rocket to the back of the net.

The Clarkes were enjoying plenty of early possession but playing into a strong wind managed only two scores during the opening fifteen minutes with Conor Mc Kee and Dylan O’Hagan on target.

Daniel Fullerton opened his account with a point for Carrickmore in the tenth minute and followed this up with a goal for the winners when he was quickest to react to a spilled ball. Fullerton added another point before James Morgan, Ciaran Daly and Mc Kee pointed for their respective teams.

Although Dungannon saw two efforts come back off the post late in the half it was Carrickmore who finished the half strongest adding a point apiece from Paddy Mc Elduff and the outstanding Cormac Munroe. Half time score 2-6 to 0-4 in favour of Carrickmore.

The Clarkes needed to start the second half well if they were to have any chance of getting back into the game. As in the first half they enjoyed copious amounts of early possession but try as they might they could not breach the well organised Carrickmore defence.

Both sides added three points apiece during the second period and as exchanges became more intense one or two tempers flared. Carrickmore finished the game with thirteen men but deservedly sealed the win and the title on a 2-9 to 0-7 score line.
