A quick fire 1-6 in the opening quarter by Donegal champions St Eunans laid the foundations for their progress to the semi finals of the Creggan tournament as they saw off the challenge of Tyrone champions Carrickmore 1-16 to 0-11.

Playing wind assisted St Eunans pinned Carrickmore inside their own half with early points from O’Donnell, Mac Intyre and Breen before they hit the net with a well worked goal from O’Donnell. Carrickmore eventually found their feet and points from a Stephen Grogan and Ciaran Daly helped them reach the break six down on a score line of 1-9 to 0-6.

The Tyrone side needed to start the second half well but found the Donegal champions high press difficult to breach. St Eunans managed to contain and restrict the Carrickmore scoring threat while landing some very well crafted scores themselves. Three points from Mc Geehin stretched the Letterkenny lead further and when Carrickmore forward Ciaran Cuddy’s goal bound shot was turned over the bar by Eunan’s goalkeeper Eoin O’Boyle any chances of a Carrickmore come back evaporated.

Stephen Grogan, Michael Mc Callan and Darragh Loughran did add points for Carrickmore but the result was never in doubt. Unfortunately a disappointing day took an even darker turn when Carrickmore substitute Rory Mc Elroy suffered what appeared to be a serious injury. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.
