Tom Sullivan RIP

TTM wish to pass on our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the late great Tom Sullivan and in turn the committee and members of Coalisland Fianna.

These days it’s not regarded as much of a feat, scoring in Croke Park, but when Tom Sullivan kicked over Tyrone’s first ever point in Croke Park in the All Ireland Minor Football final of 1947 his name would be forever known the county over.  That little bit of history would ignite a turn of events that would land back to back All Ireland minor crowns for the Red Hand county.

As the Coalisland Fianna Facebook tribute points out Tyrone were in all sorts of trouble in that final trailing Mayo by some 12 points at the half time break.  4-2 to 0-2. Two wonderful second half goals from Tom paved the way to a remarkable come back victory for Tyrone who would go on to win the match by a single point.

Tom served a range of roles on the Fianna committee including chairman but it was perhaps his work in setting up and running the iconic Sullivan’s shop on Main Street Coalisland that those outside of football will know him for.  You were always greeted with a warm smile.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to Tom’s children Catherine and Joe and all of his grandchildren.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
