Tyrone maintained their perfect start to the season with a deserved win over a robust Galway side at Tuam last Sunday making it five victories from five starts in this year’s league campaign. That win not only extended the team’s 100% record but also ensured promotion to Division One for next season so objective number one has been well and truly achieved.

For the large crowd of Tyrone supporters who made the journey west there was the satisfaction of the win but more importantly the continued development of this young team. Tuam has never been an easy venue for Tyrone teams in the past and Galway were keen to let the Red Hands know they were going to have to battle for the points. When the top two sides in the league meet, games like these are worth much more than just the two points for the winner. There is the huge psychological boost that comes with heading away from home and earning the win. And earn it they did as Galway made Tyrone battle all the way for the win.

In a match where there were many issues for discussion the topic on most folks’ minds was the superb display from young forward Kyle Coney who landed four excellent second half points from play. No one has ever doubted the talent of the young Ardboe ace but some would have questioned his willingness to work for the team. Well on Sunday he showed a side to his game which would appear to suggest he has bought in to the work ethic on which this team is built. Along with his full forward colleague Owen Mulligan Coney worked his socks off for the team defending when required and attacking with purpose when asked. It was a very good team performance but the corner forward deserves special mention for his outstanding point taking which helped seal victory for Tyrone.
