Cookstown u14s completed the league and championship double on Friday night when they came from behind at Greencastle to defeat Omagh St Endas 1-17 to 1-12 in the Grade 1 Championship final.

The light blues got off to the perfect start with a Tiarnan Lagan goal and points from Cathal Mc Keever and Lagan to lead 1-2 to no score after seven minutes while playing into the breeze.

Omagh took a while to settle but with James Mc Garvey, Michael Mc Mahon and Lorcan Mc Crystal driving them on they were soon back in the game.

Brendan Mc Kenna pointed to open their account after seven minutes before Michael Mc Mahon hit the net with a superb strike. Mc Mahon then converted a long range free to tie the game at 1-2 apiece.

Omagh were now going through the gears and they created numerous chances as they dominated the remainder of the half. Mc Mahon and James Mc Garvey landed points before midfielder Pascal Mc Menamin struck to make it 1-5 to 1-2 with eight minutes of the half remaining.

Then came the score of the night when Omagh centre back James Mc Garvey thumped over a two pointer to extend their lead to five. Cookstown finally managed to create a couple of late chances and corner forward Matty Coyle gave them hope with a point as the first half clock counted down. There was still time for Omagh however to stretch the lead to five points again when Harry Doherty clipped over a chance just on half time to leave it 1-8 to 1-3 at the break.

Omagh began the second half well with an early point from Dan Sheridan but Cookstown, with Michael Heron increasingly prominent, added five in a row to reduce the gap to one. Their points came from Matty Coyle (2), Jake Mulligan, Tiarnan Lagan and the hard working and highly impressive Aidan Rushe.

Team captain James Mc Garvey landed a fine point to put Omagh two clear again but Coyle and Jake Mulligan (2) were on target to put their side ahead for the first time since the the seventh minute. Michael Mc Mahon tied the game at 1-11 apiece but in spite of another Mc Mahon point Cookstown finished strongly with points from Mulligan, Coyle, Corey Devlin and Lagan to take the win and deservedly complete the double.

Final score: Cookstown Fr Rocks 1-17 Omagh Saint Endas 1-12
