Errigal Ciaran 4-21 1-7 Ardboe

All Ireland finalists Errigal Ciaran emphatically showed they mean business in the defence of their Tyrone senior title.

A large crowd gathered in anticipation at O’Neill Park Dungannon for the opening game in the Connollys of Moy Tyrone Senior championship, but they were largely disappointed as Errigal convincingly defeated Ardboe in a one sided encounter.

Ardboe started the game brightly as Davin McKeown opened the scoring in the first minute, followed by a converted free from Shay McGuigan, but just like last year that was as good as it got for Ardboe

Errigal reeled off 2-6 without reply in the following seventeen minutes. Joe Oguz kicked the opening goal in the 9th minute following a Cormac Quinn assist. Odhran Robinson reacted quickest to fist to the net after the keeper spilled Tommy Canavan’s shot five minutes later, Ben McDonnell struck two impressive points, and Errigal were in complete control. Darragh Canavan raced through the centre and planted size five past Gary Mallaghan with six minutes remaining in the half, and the lead was a dozen. Ardboe did kick the final three points of half but trailed 3 -6 0-6 at the break.

Ardboe were out early for the second half, and Cormac Devlin gave them renewed hope with a goal in their first attack, but with the Canavan brothers in imperious form, Errigal kicked on. Jamie Concannon got Ardboe’s final score in the 37th minute as the recently introduced Peter Og McCartan kicked a trademark two pointer, which was quickly followed by a similar Ruairi Canavan effort.

Ruairi Canavan teed up substitute Shea McDermott to fist home at the back post to compound a miserable evening for Ardboe. It was fitting that GO Man of the match Darragh Canavan completed the scoring on a night when Errigal had twelve different scorers

On this evidence Errigal are still the team to beat and no one will want them in Sunday night’s draw.
