American sports reporters and commentators make great capital out of statistics and like to produce tables showing the current form of a team in terms of games played, won, lost or tied as they call a draw. Well if we had a few of our US based colleagues presently covering the run that Mickey Harte’s side is on they would be falling over themselves looking for analogies and suitable adjectives to describe what Tyrone have been doing since the start of the 2012 season. A 100% return in terms of wins from their first eight games of the season shows that statistically The Red Hands are the most impressive and successful team in the country at the minute.
Well statistics are only figures after all but they do tell a story of a team that is showing great form and playing with a fair degree of confidence. There are many impressive aspects to their play at the minute but there are also a few areas that they know they can improve upon. Their fitness levels are superb for this time of the year as is their support play which created large numbers of chances against Louth today. Unusually they started slowly today but once they settled they once again showed that they are developing into a very good side which may yet have a major say in the destination of league and championship honours this year.
Of course the only statistic the manager is probably concerned about is their place at the summit of Division Two in the league and he will probably pay scant attention to that until the league campaign is complete. Tyrone are on a nice run of form at the minute but a defeat or two could change the season completely. Next up is Westmeath who will prove difficult opponents but this current set of players looks well capable of maintaining their current run and making it nine wins out of nine starts, another nice set of statistics no matter what way you look at it.
