The hard work put in by the Handball Development Squads under the guidance of Niall Kerr and Martin Mullan and the teachers in local schools is really paying off for Handball Tyrone. The successes of the young handballers of Tyrone in the Ulster finals of the Cumman na mBunscol competitions recently is further proof of the strength of handball in the county.

Played at the Gort na Mona Centre in Belfast there were victories for Lorcan Mc Bride in the under eleven singles and for Loughmacrory pair Ronan Cullen and Antoin Fox in the under 13 doubles. There was success also in the girls section with Drumduff pair Eimear Kerr and Elizabeth Mc Garvey lifting the under 11 doubles while Ciara Mullan of Carrickmore won the under 13 singles title.

This weekend sees the All Ireland Juvenile finals and once again a strong tyrone contingent will travel in the quest for honours. On Saturday April 7th Brackey pair Gabhann Mc Crystal and Pol Clarke will fly the flag for the Red Hand County when they travel to Limerick to take on Munster champions Colin Crehan and Niall Bolton of Clare in the minor final. The Tyrone pair will go into this final knowing they face a real challenge but they will be sure to give it everything in search of victory.

On Sunday 8th the action moves to O’Loughlin Gaels club in Kilkenny. Tyrone have representatives in both the boys and girls sections. Pauric Mullan and Jack Campbell will compete in the boys under 15 doubles while Sean Kerr is through to the under 14 singles final. Tyrone are also represented in the under 14 doubles final with Mathew Mc Cartan and Tiarnan Mc Crystal aiming for success in that one. In the under 16 doubles Tyrone will compete in both sections with Aoife Kelly and Maeve Mc Elduff lining out in the girls final while Johnny Woods and Ryan Mullan taking to the alley in the boys decider.
