Fine Win For Minor Camogs

After a good start in the All Ireland League last week, Tyrone minor camogs travelled to Louth’s Centre Of Excellence for their second match.

The girls had a strong wind and a noticeable slope to contend with in the first half and found themselves down by two goals early on. With a large number of first choice players unavailable defeat appeared inevitable.

The girls eventually settled and after a good run by Aisling Begley, Lára Devlin scored the first point. The next few minutes saw Tyrone come more into the game with runs by Kaitlin Gallagher and a wonderful catch by Emma Holmes.

Both defences were under pressure but a goal from Devlin after a long tussle in the forward line seemed to settle the Red Hands. Goalkeeper Emma Cáit Gallagher was impressive with both her handling of high bounces on the artificial surface and her lengthy puck outs against the wind. Meghan Clarke and Eimear McLaughlin were strong in defence and Bronagh Moohan’s goal put Tyrone in front for the first time.

Good support play from Lauren Jordan and Keeley Fay, who always seemed to be in the perfect position, created another opportunity for Devlin and she bagged her second goal of the game. Louth came back with a few scores but strong play from Aisling Begley, McLaughlin and Devlin ensured Tyrone reached the break in a strong position.

After the break, a lovely catch from Clarke and some timely blocks from Jordan and Holmes helped keep the Louth attack at bay. The Louth defence also tightened up on Devlin but she still added managed to add to her tally with a point from Begley’s free.

Louth added a goal before close to the full time whistle but with Begley and EC Gallagher in commanding form, Tyrone held out for a well deserved 3-9 to 3-3 win.
