It was a busy night of football in Tyrone with three very important games taking place on Friday night. Killeeshil minors produced a top class performance to defeat Aodh Ruadh in the grade one championship final. By half time they led 4-4 to 0-3 and had the title very much in the bag by then. The second half was a low scoring affair with both sides only managing eight points between them as Killeeshil won the title 5-7 to 0-7.
At Pomeroy the home side had to come from behind in a high scoring and very entertaining affair to defeat Stewartstown 4-14 to 2-12. The Plunketts had conceded two early goals and trailed twenty minutes in 2-1 to 0-4 but fought hard to get back in the game at the break. When the short whistle sounded they found themselves only a point behind 0-8 to 2-3. The second half saw Pomeroy produce some of their best football of the year with sub Kieran Mc Kenna instrumental in most of their good work. Playing his first game in some time having come back from a serious injury he set up two of their four second half goals and scored the fourth himself as the Plunketts came out on top on a scoreline of 4-14 to 2-12.
In the top division Liam Donnelly’s Trillick side lost at home again this time to a Clonoe side who seem destined to win silverware this year. The O’Rahillys led 0-6 to 0-3 at the break and dominated the game without getting the reward on the scoreboard. A Colm O’Neill goal midway through the second half put Clonoe nine points in front and ended the game as a contest and although Emmett Mc Fadden hit the net for Trillick late on Clonoe cantered to a deserved 2-13 to 1-04 victory. This win puts them top of the table a point above their great rivals and neighbours Coalisland who take on Carrickmore later this evening.
